Activesync problems with HP4155

I have a problem with a new HP4155 and Activesync. I just purchased this
item brand new out of the box, as I just joined the PPC community, coming
over from a Sony Clie TH55 PDA.

Here is the scenario. I have two PCs, one at home, one at work. I have
Outlook 2003 on both PCs. I want to sync to both PCs using the USB
connection. At the work PC, everything went smooth, no problems. I
established a partnership, transferred all my files, installed programs,
works great. It still works at this time.

I went to do the same on my home computer. I installed the latest version of
ActiveSync. It installed just fine, I inserted the PDA into the cradle,
established a partnership, and selected the sync with two computers option.
It started doing the Activesync, resolving items, etc. During this process,
the backlight timed out and went off. I pushed the power on button to
relight it, but apparently didn't hold it long enough and the PDA turned
off. Since then, I have been unable to reestablish a partnership. I cold
booted the PDA, uninstalled/reinstalled Activesync several times. It just
will not recognize the PDA. When I insert it, Activesync detects it, but all
it says is "Connecting", nothing else.

I took the PDA back to work, reestablished a partnership there, everything
is just fine. But I still can't establish any sort of a
connection/relationship with my home computer. I am totally confused about
this, as it should be a very simple thing to do. I am open to any
suggestions or avenues of action.

Please resond to either this fourm, or contact me directly at my work email
of or home email

Thanking everyone in advance for their help

Rich Cunningham

Hi,
Have you tried renaming the Pocket PC in Start - Settings - About to see if
it will connect with another name? This may require you to setup a new
partnership at work. I suspect that some of the partnership files are there
but corrupt and an uninstall will not remove them.

Yes, I did try that, I think. After I did a cold reboot, I had to
reconfigure everything at work, and renamed it there. It still doesn't
recognize it on the home PC. It is like the computer sees the PDA, and the
PDA sees the computer when I put it in the cradle, but they won't talk to
each other. In Activesync>Tools>Options>PC it only shows my work computer,
it doesn't show my home computer. Where on the Pocket PC are the partnership
files kept?

Problem resolved. I found from another thread that sometimes firewalls can
inhibit activesync. I disabled my Norton Internet Security, and it synced.
Not sure why, but it now works. Thanks for the info Chris.
