ActiveSync via USB hanging at 'Connecting' after creating partnership with Exchange Server

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help with this.

I've got a Qtek 9000 (JasJar). I've had it synching (contacts, calendar,
tasks, notes) with my home PC (running XP Pro SP2, Outlook 2003 Sp2,
ActiveSync 4.1.0 via USB with no problems for over a year.

A couple of weeks ago I added an ActiveSync partnership to the phone to sync
with our corporate Exchange Server.

This was very simple, and I did it myself - just specified name of the
server, username, password and domain and it works perfectly. I have it
configured to sync just email with the corporate server. There is no VPN
connection (at least not one I configured)

However, since I've done that I have been completely unable to synch with my
home PC. ActiveSynch detects the device, and the icon starts spinning but it
just hangs forever at 'connecting'.

I have confirmed that the IP connection is being made. My phone shows up as
Local Area Connection 6, and I can ping both ends of the connection.from the
PC end. The receive/transmit packet could in the IP Properties dialog tab
also shows numbers increasing.

I have soft reset the phone, and have removed (and restored) the corporate
connection several times, but cannot get the connection and sync to my home
PC to work again.

If I look at the Sync Status in ActiveSync on the phone, it shows the last
successful sync (before I added the partnership to the exchange server).
There's no sign it even attempts to sync to the PC anyone more.

I'm trying to avoid doing a hard reset, as I don't have a recent backup
(yes, I know....)

Thanks in advance!!!

-Steve

Hi,
When you setup the Exchange partnership, you cannot sync with 2 PCs anymore.
With Windows Mobile 5.0, Microsoft now allows you to sync with one PC via
ActiveSync.

I would check your partnerships on the Windows Mobile 5.0 device and the PC.
You need to have both pieces of the partnership in order to sync.

Hi Chris,

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that with WM2005 (which is what
I've got on the JasJar), I should be able to have the Exchange server
partnership, plus one PC partnership?

Looking at ActiveSync, this is what I've got. Before setting up the Exchange
Server partnership I had only one partnership, with my home machine.

Now, shown in ActiveSynch, I see the Exchange partnership and the original
PC partnership. But the PC partnership simply doesn't try to synch (at the
PPC end, at the PC end it never gets past 'Connecting')

I checked the PPC registry to ensure there wasn't some other partnership in
there I'd forgotten about:

in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\P1 are the details
of my home PC

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\P2 is empty

Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Pa rters there are two
groups, each with a long hex string as their name.

Looking at the 1st one (partner index 0x0), it is my Home PC

The 2nd one is my Exchange Server (PartnerIndex 0x1)

(I have a full registry dump of both of these, if it would help...)

However, looking at these, I do believe I have only a single PC partner set
up - which is the one with my home PC.

Can you think of anything else I can check?

Regards
Steve

Hi,
Did you check the partnerships on the JasJar in ActiveSync? This is where
you can only have one partnership and sync with Exchange.

Hi Chris,

Yes - I should have been clearer. All the registry references below were on
the JasJar.

The thing that's strange is that it simply no longer tries to sync to the
PC. If (on the JasJar) I click 'synch' in activesynch it will always attempt
to sync to the Exchange server, but doesn't even attempt the PPC.
