ActiveSynch 3.8 Screwed up my computer

I tried to upgrade from 3.7 to 3.8 last evening and as a result, I no
longer have either 3.7 or 3.8 and am unable to synch my Ipaq 1935. When I
try to install either one of them, the files are copied to the computer but
are not installed. The install program just stops after copying the files.
Afterwards, ActiveSynch shows up in Processes but not in my program files.
Any suggestions or solutions? Thanks in advance.

I'd delete my partnership(s), uninstall AS, re-install it, and do a "copy
from PC to PPC" when syncing.

Did you try uninstalling the old version first so it is a clean
install?

| This is a common problem Frank, and to date I have not been able to
find a
| solution other than finding the original CD that came with your iPAQ.
Once
| you load the CD, dig down in the CD using Windows Explorer and locate
a file
| by the name of IS_SETUP.EXE and double click on it... ActiveSync will
then
| install.
|
| As for installing the newest version 3.8, I don't know how we are
ever going
| to get that installed, unless MS releases a version that allows us
access to
| that particular file.

Did it get to 92% and stop, or did it complete?

| Yes I did try that Al, but I shouldn't have because the moment I
uninstalled
| a working v3.7.1 I was left with no ActiveSync at all. The problem is
there
| is something about the file MSASYNC.EXE that you download from
Microsoft,
| because it will deploy the files alright, but there is no further
action on
| the part of the installer... it's as if there is a problem with the
installer.
|
| So, I had to re-load 3.7.1 from my CD that came with my Dell, and
even then
| I had to dig down into the CD to find IS_SETUP.EXE. Even worse, I now
had
| 3.7.1 installed but without all the conduits, so I had to re-load all
my
| Programs. To make it quicker, I simply did a hard reset and worked up
from
| there.

When I had a similar issue I had to uninstall the program then edit the
registry to remove all of the left over references to Activesync. I had
to try this a couple of times before I got them all, but the install
ran correctly after this.
