ActiveSynch Outlook Mail Settings for Exchange

I've tried every combination of domain names to get ActiveSync to work with
Exchange. Is there any way to find out for sure what my remote domain is?

What I'm trying to do:
Get my windows mobile device (HTC) to connect over the internet to my
company's Exchange server to download my Outlook mail. ActiveSync to my
desktop works just fine, but I want my mobile device to be untethered.

What I know:
Web Mail: https://mail.mycompanyname.com/remote
Microsoft Exhange Server: sbs2003.mycompanyname.local
Path to mailfile on server: //sbs2003/users/myname/
Workgroup: WORKGROUP

What I've tried:
I've tried nearly every combination of the words above to guess the
"domain" when entering the data into the ActiveSync options on my windows
mobile device. I keep getting "Attention Required: Access was denied.
Choose Configure Server on the ActiveSync menu to check your server username
and password. Support code 0x8501002" or "Please correct your Exchange Server
credentials".

I've tried using Exchange over USB without much success (normal USB
ActiveSynch works fine). I get a slightly different error. "The device
timed out waiting for you to supply credentials. Support Code 8500200C".

I've tried "Attempt to detect Exchange Server Settings automatically"
without success. Certificates do not appear to be the problem. I know the
password is correct.

Versions:
Mobile OS: Windows Mobile 6.1
ActiveSync: 4.5
Outlook: 2007 SP 1 (12.0.6316.5000)
Server: Small Business Server 2003

Other Hypothesis not yet tested:
- Is the domain or username case senstive?
- Is the username my full name "John Doe" or my username "j.doe"
- Should the server address be "https://mail.company.com" instead of
"mail.company.com"?
- Should I just use a numeric IP address instead?

Hi,
Did you contact your company for assistance? Even if you have all the
settings correct, the administrator has to authorize your accout to sync
with Exchange.

The domain name is the same as the domain name when you login via your PC.
