I am using a genuine xp pro, that has been activated.
I have also changed my system security settings, but to
no avail. will i ever get passed this damned WGA. I get
this message

Validation Not Completed: ActiveX Error [0x80080206]
Why did it not validate?
It appears that your internet settings will not allow
the genuine ActiveX control to run properly, or you may
not be the system administrator of the machine you are
using.
We hope that you'll return later to retry the validation
process so that you may enjoy the full benefits of
genuine Microsoft software."

I have tried the solution posted by Christopher on 13th
August at 6.38pm, on the: microsoft.private.wgatalk.
But it didnt work for me,

Steve

the only way i could solve this problem, (because nobody seems to know
another way) was to back up all my files, and reinstall windows. I then used
the WGA before installing service pack 2. It validated my xp as genuine
straight away. It worked for mr this way, but I cant say it would definately
work for everyone.
Good luck, Steve

I've validated my copy of windows before, and it was ok. Now I had to
validate it again to get the new anti-spyware beta, and I've run into the
same problem as the first post-er.

Try downloading it via the "genuine offers" page rather than any other
location, and see if that makes a difference

I keep getting the error
?linkid=39204
Unknown Publisher

This is very frustrating, as I just purchased this copy of Windows XP Pro.
I really have no idea why it wont load, I try the alternate method of
verifying my copy, and it gives me unknown publisher errors each time, and
the copy fails to validate, even tho I tell it to run,

If you need help diagnosing this please provide more specific details.

E.g. I just did a search with Google web search for inurl:linkid=39204
and found (as the top hit):

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=39204

Tip: Maximize the window (so you can see as much of the URL
in the Address bar and Status bar)

When I click on that link I get a long cryptic URL which is not accessible
because of a prompt which comes up but would be transcribable
from a maximized window's Address bar if necessary.

The prompt is:

Title: File Download
Do you want to open or save this file?
Name: LegitCheckControl.cab
Type: Unknown File Type, 347 KB
From: download.microsoft.com
Buttons: Open, Save, Cancel
Checkbox (checked): Always ask before opening this type of file

Did you see that? What did you do then and what happened *precisely*?

Note also that you may be able to see even more detail
about your symptoms by running FileMon while you are
trying to use this prompt.

HTH
