Hi All,

My clients complaint that recently they can't view a button (which is
developed using ActiveX control) in their website which was developed
by me using asp. The problem doesn't exist before, after i checked, i
found that it happened after their Windows automatically updates on 18
of August.

I have used system restore to restore their OS back to the date before
the updates, and the problem doesn't exist. However, my clients didn't
wish to accept this solution.

Is there any problems on the security updates? Have anyone know any
solutions for this?

I really need helps on this...

Thanks and Regards,
Jasmine

See if one of these clears up the problem:

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Locate the 'ActiveX controls and plug-ins' category.
Enable the 'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins', and enable the 'Script ActiveX controls marked
as safe for scripting'

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Medium", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Trusted sites",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Low", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

You receive a "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page"
message when you try to use Windows Update http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836942

Thanks for your advise

I have tried that before but it not helps... after i research, i think
the problem is caused by windows security update "KB896688", after i
uninstall it, the problem is gone and the activeX working again,
however, when i reinstall it, the problem exist again.

My client didn't wish to uninstall the security updates before i
confirm with them the advantages and disadvantages... anyone have any
idea?

Thanks and Regards,
Jasmine

Hi,

See if this helps:

Please put the part between the two
--------------------8<----------------------
lines below into a file that you give a .reg file extension (use e.g.
Notepad).

Import the registry file by double clicking on it in Explorer,
and then reboot the computer.

When importing the registry file, you should then get this dialog box:

---------------------------
Registry Editor
---------------------------
Are you sure you want to add the information in Some.reg to the registry?
---------------------------
Yes No
---------------------------

Press the Yes button, and you should get this dialog box:

---------------------------
Registry Editor
---------------------------
Information in Some.reg has been successfully entered into the registry.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Then reboot the computer.

Here is the content of the registry file:

--------------------8<----------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]
@="ClassMoniker"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32]
@="ole32.dll"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID]
@="clsid"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID]
@="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

--------------------8<----------------------
(be sure to have a blank line at the end of the registry file)

I don't understand what you are telling us what to do here. Could you be
more specific as what to do?

Hm, Torgeir's advice has been very detailed IMHO.

FWIW, I've uploaded the REG file mentioned by Torgeir (and "Whatswrongnow"
first, who did received the file via MS support) on my site:
http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip

Download the ZIP file, extract it and double click the contained
OLEfix.reg file. Accept it merge into the registry. You may have
to reboot your machine afterwards.

HTH,
Freudi
