Hi!

I bought a used iPAQ 5450 to move some applications from my iPAQ 3870.

Both devices running PPC2002.

I've upgrading my home PC from ActiveSync 3.8 to 4.2.
After that, I were able to connect my two
PPC-devices (iPAQ 3870 and 5450) as guests to my home PC.
I have done some successful connections with IE and other programms to
the outside world.

Then I Synced the 5450 with my work notebook using ActivSync 4.1.
Syncing was OK, but no Internet connection is possible there. I'm still
thinking this has to do with the security restrictions in the work
network. But this network is also using a proxy server.

After that no Internet connection from my home PC with the 5450 is possible,

The 3870 still works at this time.

If I compare the WCESCOMM.log from a working 3870 and a not working 5450
session, the 5450 ends up with
"07/29/2006 14:48:33.453 - CesProxy: recv failed on PPP socket 990, err
= 10004".
This log has also a
"07/29/2006 14:40:25.421 - CesProxy: recv failed on Win socket 990, err
= 10054" in it.

The 3870 log is not error free. It shows
"07/29/2006 14:21:56.843 - CesProxy: recv failed on Win socket 990, err
= 10054" ...
"07/29/2006 14:21:56.843 - CesProxy: recv failed on PPP socket 990, err
= 10053"
but shows no 10004 and is working.

I have Hard-Reseted my 5450. A connection to a web-site was possible at
this state. But after restore of the device no connection is possible again.

I have checked this with an PC running ActiveSync 3.8. Same behaviour!

Any idea what this means?

Thanks Ralf

Meanwhile I have setted up the device from scratch and it worked until
yesterday in a combination of connecting to 2 different PCs, running
ActiveSync 4.2 and 3.8!

A "USB device not detectable" event was seen before at the PC running
ActiveSync 4.2.

After seeing the problems, I have checked 4.2 settings. I saw, that
connection was defined with "automatic". I'm pretty sure, that I have
configured that with "Internet".
I hate software which means to be smarter than the (stupid) user!

Probably the automatic setting has transfered -again- some settings
about proxys, ..., to the PPC(2002) ...

Can someone (from Microsoft?) explain what kind of network-settings will
be exchanged between the connection via ActiveSync.
What kind of settings will be done, where?
How can I get rid of that?

I don't think it is normal, but I'm willing to re-import some registry
settings frequently to repair a obviously not working well application.

Thanks

Ralf (frustrated)
