Help

My AD on my remote site is not working properly.
Site 1: server 2003 ip 192.168.0.2
site 2 server2 2003 ip 192.168.254.241

I dcpromo forced server2 back to workstation server status, rebooted,
connect via vpn back in server domain and added back to dmain. Rebooted and
ran dcpromo... durning this process it did not install dns. Ran setup and
installed dns. I replicated the AD from server to server2 which brought over
the dns for AD forward zone and reverse for 192.168.0.x zone.
Ran dns create zone and it did not create _msdcs, _sites... etc.. in the
new zone.

When I disconnect from vpn the local ad does not know about AD. In the main
forward zone it has all the values for both server and server.

Did I not do something when setting up the additional forward zone for
192.168.254.x

Thanks

Hi,
let me understand it one by one.
1. You ran dcpromo to forced server2 to member server and then remove it
from domain to make it work group, right?
2. You rejoin the server2 to domain, Right?
3. You ran dcpromo to make it domain controller
4. You installed DNS on server2 and replicated zones from server
Above steps are correct.

I dont understand as you said you ran DNS create zone.

Do have _msdcs, _site etc zone on server(192.168.0.2)?
Did you point server2 to its own DNS server IP?
Did you restart netlogon/DNS services?

thanks

I am really confused. How many domains and how many forests do you have?
Please provide specific details. What type of dns? AD integrated,
primary/secondary?
