AD Profile Corruption?

I'm having a strange issue with a user. He came into his machine on Monday
morning and upon rebooting received the error:

Windows-Registry Recovery
One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered
by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful.

Since then, his computer will boot and he can login but almost everything he
tries to do hangs up or times out.
So he went to another machine and began working, using OWA. We have Exchange
2003/Outlook 2003/7. He can work with that, but all the emails he sends to
in-house people really gum up their Outlook, taking forever to open or reply
to.

Can anyone provide some explanation for what is going on here? I'm leaning
towards an AD Profile corruption, but it seems weird given that the original
problem was a local registry issue.

This has nothing to do with Active Directory and should be reposted in the
General Windows O/S section.
