Any news from Adaptec on this one?

It's a bit of a pain - my CD/DVD drives are all SCSI and now they're
useless.

I'm in the same boat. I still use SCSI for backup (die-hard tape fan)
and just bought a second-hand 2940UW to replace my old 2904 since
there's a Vista driver. Only to find that "Vista support" in this case
equals "only Vista x86".

Imagine my disappointment at now having TWO unusable SCSI cards and
still no access to my old backups.

Gee, I have an Adapted SCSI card that has 32 bit Vista drivers.
The problem is that Vista does not recognize them as Vista drivers.
I do not think Adaptec has a clue how to write Vista drivers, nor do many
peripheral vendors, and Adaptec tech support is non-existent.

Well, my big hope is that, since the 2940UW driver for x86 was updated a
week ago, there may be an x64 version ahead. But you're right - getting
hold of adaptec is a bit of a pain.

I think they built their stuff too well - loads of their kit is ending
up in the hands of consumers via the second-hand market, and consumers
are expensive to support

Select the driver manually, Use the Adaptec AIC-7870 PCI SCSI Controller
(Emulated).
Works for Windows Server 2008 too.

Got my tape drive up and running again

(NTBackup can also work if you copy it from XP/Win2003).

Does this method work for all 2940 adapters (i.e. 2940UW, 2940AU, etc.)?
What kind of tape drive and backup software are you using?

AIC-78xx appears to be loaded as the driver. I would guess that it would
work for all compatible cards - mine is 2940UW.

BackupExec 12 works with Windows 2008 server - but refuses to install
on Vista x64.

I have a Certance DAT72x6 AutoLoader.

Cheers.

Win2008 x64, Vista Ultimate x64, BE x64.

Also picked up a 29160 and a 39160 - these are detected automatically.

Hi,

As suggested, Win 2003 server 64 and 2940UA worked by installing the
standard 2940 family drivers drivers (Control Pannel=>Add hardware),
select the SCSII controller, select the 2940 family drivers and ignore
the warnings. At least has worked for a day with a SureStore 6000 tape
drive, used for differential backups, made frequently of some important
files. May not work with disk drives, because this controller only
supports disks up to 6GB or so.
