Add to Favorites Bar button

IE 8
Win XP Pro SP3

Is there any way to remove or disable the Add to Favorites Bar button? (the
star with the small green arrow in front of it)

I've already accidentally hit it a couple of times and it's kind of
annoying. Besides I already have my Favorites picked out and stuffed into
their little folders so the button, to me anyway, is proving useless.

I've looked through the GPE but couldn't find any policy to shut is off.

Is there a registry hack out there that could accomplish this?

-Kevin

Had you been running IE7, Kevin, or did you upgrade IE6 to IE8?

IE7 had the same button. Was it a problem for you in IE7, too? (No, you
can't remove it.)

PA Bear,
Thanks for your reply.
Actually IE7 had an Add to Favorites button. (star w/green plus sign) which
added websites to your Favorites.
IE8 has an Add to Favorites /Bar/ button. (star w/green arrow) adds websites
to your Favorites Bar (formerly the Links Bar)
They're not the same.
I don't really see that much use for a button that adds websites to my
Favorites Bar (Links)
And while we're at it...Why rename the Links bar in the first place? It's
only going to make things more confusing. Don't you think?

Surely there must be a way to remove this button?

As mentioned previously, there wasn't one in IE7.

It doesn't serve any purpose, as it's so much easier to drag the link onto
the Favorites Bar, with the added advantage that you then drag it to where
you actually want it, rather than in front of all the other links, which is
almost certainly where you don't want it.

Unchecking the "Favorites Bar" entry does not remove the Favorites star.

I'm old fashioned - I like menus and I don't like tabs. Now I have exactly
one thing taking up a whole bunch of vertical space across the top - the
Favorites star.

There really must be a way to remove this or move it somewhere else, such as
over to the right of the menus bar so that it doesn't take up so much
vertical space.
