add hdtv channels not an option on media center,

I have what I am guessing to be one of the first versions of windows home
media center xp and wish to update my software to acknowledge the secondary
channels related to the new, over the air (OTA) HD channels. I attempted to
download the rollup upgrade for 2005,however I see no change to the "add
channel" options under the setup session. Any advise?

There was no downloadable upgrade to 2005 from v2004 or v2002 (if that is
what you have). Several of the mfg (Sony, HP, etc.) did offer a limited time
upgrade disk for users who had recently purchased a system, but those
programs have long since ended. If you do have a version earlier than MCE
2005, the only way to upgrade is purchase an OEM copy and do a clean install
(or upgrade to Vista or 7, if your hardware can support either).

Verify which version of MCE that you have by going through the MC interface,
choose: Settings > General > About Media Center
