How to Add Icons to Desktop?

Right-click on the Desktop > select Personalize > in the upper left under
Tasks you should see "Change Desktop icons" .. click it > check the
checkboxes for the ones you want > click OK

Well in vista you can place anything on the desktop with click and drag, just
find it, drag it and you have a shortcut then you can rename it to whatever
you want. The way to show the recycle bin without clicking and dragging is to
open control panel>personalization and in the top left hand corner click
"change desktop icons" from there you can choose what icons to show/hide and
change them to different icons if you want to.
