Every time I try to access the add/remove programs panel in Vista m
computer crashes. Specifically, it attempts to load for a long long tim
(Ive left it going for hours before) and when I click anything in th
panel it stops responding. When I attempt to bring up a task manager th
computer freezes entirely and im forced to manually shut it down. I hav
run virus and malware scans, cleaned the registry, installed update
ect. I was hoping someone might have an idea how to fix this.
thanks

I note you do not mention applying System Restore. Vista will create restore
points going back some way all though the older points drop off when the
feature is full. If you can find a restore point at a date when you know the
computer was running properly, this might well solve the problem.

But before you start, please disable any setting in any antivirus program,
such as Norton, whereby such program seeks to protect itself against an
outside attacker. If you don’t take this step, you may find that System
Restore fails to work properly.

I hope this is of help.

the way vista handles system restore is a tragedy..

I have written about this on my blog!

http://computerboom.blogspot.com/200...estore-in.html

the shadow copy leaves very little room for many restore points like XP
had...

and the worse part about this is that the same thing happens with the HOME
versions of Vista
that cannot access the shadow copies, aka old versions without a third party
application!

what a mess!
