Add/Remove KB Program updates

Hi all.
Could I please get some advice. Windows 2000 XP Service Pack 2

I need to know as to whether I can delete 'old' KB updates or Hotfixes from
my Add/Remove Programs option.

I have a number of 'old' hotfixes and of course the new updates, however, as
the updates are sometimes 'critical' they are of course implemented.
An example is:
I installed an update on July 10th - Microsoft then released a 'critial'
update on July 12th - does the newer version 'replace' the original?
Therefore do I remove the old version?
I have Automatic Updates turned ON.
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Thank you.

Here's what I've done and others have also recommended.

Once the hotfixes are installed and you're sure things are running fine then
you can delete the hotfix listing from Add or Remove Programs and delete the
corresponding folders from \windows. Do not delete the \$hf_mig$ folder, all
others listed as \$NTUninstallKB*****$ can be removed. There should also be
a KB*****.log file in the \windows folder that can be deleted too.

Hi,

Do *not* delete them by running them from Add/Remove Programs (ARP),
this will uninstall important security updates.

To remove the uninstall folders (and their corresponding entries in
ARP), you can use this utility by fellow MVP Doug Knox (Windows 2000
and XP):

Remove Hotfix Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry Entries

Hi,

Just note that you will need to remove the $NTUninstall*******$ folders
first, before clicking on the entries in Add/Remove Programs. If you do
it the other way around, you will actually uninstall the security
update (not a good thing).

If you had carefully read my instructions you would see I had said to delete
the listing for the update - not to run the add or remove function.

Hi,

Yes, I did read it carefully, and as you did not mention anything
about what or where for that listing, I could not be sure if you
meant the listing in registry or the actual ones in Add/Remove
Programs applet.

Note that most people have no idea about the Add/Remove Programs
registry listings or where to find them, so when mentioning them,
it is prudent to give detailed instructions on how to locate them
I think.
