Add/Remove Programs Issue

I'm running Active Sync 3.7.1 on a desktop with Windows 98 SE and an iPaq 2210. The synchronisation
process works fine, but there is a problem with the "add/remove programs" function.

A while ago, I installed PrymeNav Europe, and this quite correctly brought up the Add/Remove
programs dialog to install the relevant components onto the iPaq. However, I now get the same dialog
every time I connect the iPaq, even though the program has been installed and is working OK. If I
click on cancel, the dialog (obviously) goes away but pops up next time I connect. If I click OK,
there's a period where (I assume) the files are being checked, but I don't think anything is
actually installed since it is already there, and again the dialog pops up next time I connect.

I am running the ZoneAlarm firewall, and have read the various postings about this and checked that
all the relevant parts of ActiveSync have been given full access.

Is this how it is meant to work, or should the dialog just appear the first time you connect after
adding some new software?

Try uninstalling the last application you tried to install (from
Add/Remove in ActiveSync - check the box beside the program and click
Remove, and also see if it shows up in Add/Remove Programs in Control
Panel on your desktop computer).

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling ActiveSync, then reinstall
ActiveSync.

Rob,

Thanks for the advice. I did as you suggested, and while removing the application didn't help (I got
the same add/remove programs dialog but with no programs listed!), removing and re-installing
ActiveSync did the trick.

The only minor inconvenience I have is that, having added the program to the PocketPC Start Menu
before doing all of this, I now have an entry both on the Start Menu and under Programs, and I can't
seem to get rid of the duplicate. However, this isn't a real problem.

Regards,

You can find the shortcuts for the Start Menu using File Explorer -
it's under \Windows\Start Menu. You can then delete the shortcuts by
performing a tap and hold on the file, then tapping Delete.
