The button that defaults to "Sleep" (IIRC) can be changed to several
other choices.
Open Power Options and then click 'change plan settings' under your
relevant power option, i.e., balance etc. On the next screen click the
'change advanced power settings' link. The "Power Options advanced
settings" window now opens. Look down the list and click on plus sign
next to the 'Power button and lid' option; this will expand the list.
Now click on the plus sign next to the 'start menu power button'
option. The setting is currently set for sleep. To change it click on
the blue link (sleep) a box now appears with an arrow to the right.
Click the arrow and select the 'shut down' option. Finally click OK
and then close the power options. When you now click the power button
on the start menu the PC shuts down.
