Adding Contacts to Msn Live

I continously have a problem when adding contacts to MSN live. When i add
them they appear in my list but not online. They contact can see that im
online but im unable to see them or msg them until they message me.
This happens with nearly all new contacts that i add. I have about 100
contacts currently.
What can i do to fix this as its a real pain?

Are you sure you're using the latest version of Windows Live Messenger (8.1)? You can grab

I sure am. Ver 8.1. I even downloaded the new version again to start from
fresh and i still have the same problem.

Any more ideas?

Hi,

Do you have another PC you could try it on? I'm just curious if this is a server problem or
client problem.

Hi,

One final thing to try. Delete one of the troublesome contacts and then ask them to remove
you (by e-mail or other means). Then press Alt-T on the keyboard, choose Options, and then
Privacy category, Find them on the allow list, right-click them and choose Delete. If the
Delete option isn't available (grayed out) then they haven't deleted you yet.

After they're fully deleted, go ahead and readd them to your list. After they accept, see if
they appear online.

What you're doing here is fully re-establishing the relationship between yourself and your
contact in the Messenger backend database. Although I realize doing this for 100 contacts
would be rather irritating, it's good information for support to know if you end having to go
to them to be fixed.

Jonathan,

I have just noticed something.
At work i use MSN messenger 8.0, at home i use 8.1. Whilst at work i have a
lot of contacts on my list that i dont have at home. There seems to be a
double up of or even a triple up of contacts on my list. I have 382 on
version 8.0, at home on version 8.1 live i have approx 100.
How does this work? Is there a way to mass delete contacts or something?
Perhaps my 8.0 list is way to big and something weird is happening there??

I thought id give you heads up on this before doing the procedure you
described..

i have the same issue, but i use 8.1 at work and 8.1 at home, all my contacts
are all over the show, double, tripple, anyone know if there is a fix
