Can't add Internet Explorer 7 desktop icon. Don't want shortcut,
but native IE icon so when right-click, can view properties.

Tried manually editing registry and registry hack from following
website and neither worked.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

Any other ideas much appreciated.

Should work. You'd also need to refresh the desktop, though, eg by pressing
F5.

Tx for reply. Did refresh desktop. Went thru procedure
few more times and still a no-go & mystery to me. Will try
again later.

Recall had no problem when had to do same thing with XP SP3 or
when IE7 first came out.

If you use the Classic start menu, then you need to make the changes under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMe nu

rather than

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

That's perhaps the issue.

Hey, Why don't you use WinBubble? It's very easy.
1. Download WinBubble here
http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2007...tures-gap.html

2. Open the Program > Click "Show Computer Icon to Desktop"
3. Press Alt-A or just click the Apply Button

Hope this helps...

Why don't you use WinBubble to do that?
here:
'Unlock for Us: WinBubble 1.73, \"Customization and Tweaks, Not Just
for Geek's But For ALL\" was released'

Just click the option "Show Internet Explorer to desktop"
And press "Alt-A".

I hope this helps...

Tx to all for replies! Believe it or not, have tried all suggestions
without success. Downloaded WinBubble and even that didn't
work for IE icon, but at least some of other features did. Give
up on IE icon for now.

1 week old newbie to Vista and just trying to learn the ins/outs
of this OS. Discovering some of my fav software programs not
compatible and things that worked so flawlessly with XP Pro
and should work with Vista aren't - frustrating!

On bright side, do like most of new Vista features.
