Address book help please?

Just got a new PC with Vista and I am unable to get my saved email address
book into Windows mail - can anybody help please?

It appears when using the contacts icon in the tool bar but not when I try
to access it when creating an email.

If I "reply to" a senders email that address goes into the address book and
I can then pick it up and use it when creating a new email.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can possibly guide me.
