Address Book replaced by signing into WindowsLive

My Gmail sync'd address book which has been working fine was replaced with an
empty address book. This was caused by signing into WindowsLive with my
Yahoo email address and I only see an option to sign in with a different user
ID.

How do sign out of WindowsLive (shown in the top right corner) if my gmail
account is not a valid WindowsLive ID? Or, how do I get back my Gmail
address book and have it begin to sync again?

I tried to do a web sign-in to Gmail and export my address book but it was
too large to import to WindowsLive and going forward would not be sync'd.

HELP!

WLMail can only synchronize contacts with those at contacts.live.com,
associated with a Live ID. Gmail contacts *don't* sync.

Contacts are associated with a Live ID. If you sign in, then the contacts
you see are the ones associated with the Live ID you sign in with. And you
have to put them there; even though you sign in with a Yahoo address that
you have registered as a Live ID, there is no connection to your Yahoo
account and any contacts you might have at mail.yahoo.com.

[Tools >] Options > Connection > Stop signing in. When you do this, the
contacts available will be the Default set, probably the ones you call your
Gmail contacts. These will not synchronize anywhere, and if you add a
contact at mail.google.com, it will not appear in WLMail.

There does seem to be a relatively recently imposed limit of 1500 contacts
in WLMail. I'm not sure whether this only applies to Windows Live Contacts
(that synchronize with contacts.live.com) or whether it also applies to the
local Default contacts. Do you have more than 1500?
