Hi, Using Vista Home Premium 32bit on a Dell Inspiron 1720. Fn+Up arro
adjusts the brightness but when I use this, yes it adjusts th
brigthness but everything in every program auto tabs repeatedly, deskto
items, menu items, option-box items, tabs, links, everything. Don't kno
how to stop it from auto-tabbing and don't know how to configure th
short-cuts. anyone have a similar problem or know how to resolve it

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what you mean by autotabs but have you installed the Dell
Quickset utility? If you did an upgrade from XP you should uninstall Quickset
and install the Quickset for Vista.

thanks for trying to help, it is a 1720 that came with vista installed
by "auto-tabs" I'm trying to describe...well imagine repeatedly pressin
tab and not stopping no matter what application or dialogue box wa
open. that's what it looks like.

don't know what to do. I only ever want to change the brightness when
unplug it from the mains which is rare so I haven't had much cause t
find a solution, but today I figured I would try to find out. The onl
thing I can do to stop the "auto-tabing" after it starts is to restart.

Is there any other way other than a short cut to adjust the brightness
I couldn't find it. and is there a way to configure the shortcuts

If you have quickset installed try removing it, rebooting, and then
reinstalling it. I wonder if you have the tab key mapped somehow to something
else.

Also, FYI you can adjust brightness without having Quickset installed, but
Quickset gives you a little icon when you do it and some other options.

thanks, after I uninstall quickset, should I re-install it from here
'Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook QuickSet v.8.2.20 for Windows Vista
(http://notebook.driversdown.com/note...t_118504.shtml
It's the only place I can find. to be honest I don't even know wha
quickset's function is or that is a dell feature. if i do have the ta
key mapped to something else, how do i change that? my tab key works a
it should, cycles through clickable items etc. its just my brigtnes
shortcut FN+up arrow, starts the auto tabbing repeatedly while it als
turns up the brightness

I would get it directly from Dell. Go to: http://support.dell.com and
navigate to downloads for your laptop.

If all else fails I'd call Dell.
