question.

My laptop is TOshiba Portege M700 (nothing to do with my question bu
anyways...)I've problems adjusting the brightness. I've tried couple o
things but nothing so i came to a decision of installing windows vista
I also have a sticker next to my touch pad saying Windows Vist
certified something. So i wa wondering if i install it, will i be abl
to adjust my LCD brightness through a program in vista

On most laptops brightness is adjusted with a set of keys such as Fn+<arrow
up> to brighten and Fn + <arrow down> to darken.

That's done with your laptop keys, not with Vista. Read your manual.

The answer is "No." Vista has no provision for changing the brightness.
You have to do that from your keyboard. You may need a special keyboard
driver from Toshiba. Check their Website.

I'm not sure about Toshiba, but look for something called Windows Mobility
Center (maybe right click on AC/Battery Icon in the task bar). On my HP it
allows several adjustments, including brightness.

One of your power settings is probably locking the video to a low
brightness setting.

Then you need to contact the laptop's manufacturer for warranty
support, and/or the proper video drivers.

Changing the operating system won't make any difference if the
underlying hardware is defective, or if there are no device drivers
available for the new OS. Again, contact the laptop manufacturer for
assistance; your problem has nothing to do with Windows.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Windows Mobility Center

If you have a Toshiba laptop that came from the factory with Vista, it
will have "modified by Toshiba" in there.

Make sure that your power settings do not contradict this and they
will change it when you switch to battery power, for example. But, the
Mobility Center will override the Power settings on the fly.
