Admin access problems installing / using apps

Twice now I've had the same problem; first while trying to install HP Camera
software, I'm got the "please log back in on an administrative account"
message. I have no option to enter a username or password, and the install
fails every time. I can find no option anywhere in the control panel to fix
this.

Just a few minutes ago, I got the same pop-up when the media player was
accessed, but this time I was given the option to enter an administrative
name and password, which, after doing so, worked fine and allowed the app to
proceed.

This is a personal computer, purchased yesterday with Vista Home Basic
already installed, and both accounts on the comp are administrative with full
security permissions. What's going on with this, and is there a way to stop
these pop-ups, and also to allow my camera software to install?

Hello,

If a program is complaining about needing admin rights, right-click the
program and click Run As Administrator.

In Windows Vista, programs that do not request administrator privileges from
you (via a "Windows needs your permission to continue" prompt) DO NOT
receive admin privileges.

This security feature allows non-admin software to run with reduced
privileges and also makes sure that you know about and authorize a program
that needs admin power to run.

Unfortunately, some non-Vista-compatible programs may need admin power but
won't request it; instead, they will fail or give you an error, such as the
one you describe. You will need to explicitly give these programs permission
to run by right-clicking them and clicking Run As Administrator.

You can turn off this security feature disabling "UAC" in the user accounts
control panel; however, this will turn off many other important security
improvements in Vista, including Internet Explorer Protected Mode, and is
NOT recommended.

Has anything changed on your computer since you stopped receiving the
popups?
