I am the administator, I installed an address book from my XP machine on to
Vista, created an Icon for it, now when I click on it, it opens but the data
is not there. when I right click and click run as administator the data is
there, and the program works fine. I have gone to the security tab and
clicked edit, from there I don't know what to do! Will some one please tell
me how to edit the security tab, so that the program will run when the icon
on the desktop is clicked.
Thanks,
Chuck

Hello,

If you know where the address book data is stored, you can try adding a
security permission on that data file giving your username in Vista access
to it.

Otherwise, you can change the shortcut to always run as administrator
(shortcut tab, advanced, run as administrator).

Jimmy,When I get in to the edit window and get to "enter the object name" I
enter C:\program files\PAD\addrbook.exe, when I click OK. It say's "Name not
found" what do I put in there?

You don't need to modify the security settings on addrbook.exe or your
shortcut to it.

Do you know what file PAD uses to store the address book in?

The best solution is to try and find a version of PAD that is
vista-compatible.

Jim,
The program stores the data in "Data.pad" the path to the exe. is
c:\programs files\PAD\AddrBook.exe. Data.pad is in the same folder.

Try this:

- Open the properties for data.pad
- Click security tab
- Click edit
- Click add
- Type your username in the box
- Place a check mark under allow next to full control
- Click OK
- Click OK

See if that makes the program work.

Click the start button, your username is most likely what is printed at the
top under your picture.
