Adobe Help Center blocked since Windows Updates

Have Windows Media Center (XP Pro SP3). Installed on April 21, 2009 were the
updates: KB959426, KB961373, KB963027, KB890830, KB956572, KB952004,
KB960803, KB923561. Yesterday, for the first time since before the updates
were installed, I needed to call up the Adobe Help Center for Photoshop help.
The Adobe Help Center button shows up in the Status Bar but will not open.
I went to Adobe Communities and was told to remove and reinstall the Help
Center, which I did, but this did not help. I have used the Help Center many
times before without a problem. It seems like it wants to come up but is
blocked. Please help if you can because it does not seem to be an Adobe
problem.

.... except that it is only the Adobe Help Center that has the issue ...

What - other than uninstalling/installing fresh - did Adobe have to suggest
you do?
What version of Photoshop? (Is that the problem with Adobe helping you
further - support?)
