Hi,

We are currenlty looking to introduce server 2008 R2 x64 domain controllers
into an existing 2003 forest. All 2003 dcs are 32 bit. We have already
upgraded the schema to introduce 2008 Read Only DCs so my question is:

Do i still need to upgrade the schema?, and is the following command
correct: adprep32 /forestprep on schema master
adprep32 /domainprep /gpprep on Infrastructure master in Domain that 2008 R2
DCs will be introduced

Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Hello paperhat,

Windows server 2008 R2 requires a schema update like done with Windows server
2008, the schema will be updated to version 47, 2008 is version 44.

Best regards

You will also need to do an RODC prep if you plan on introducting RODC's.

/domainprep /gpprep?
I thought it would just be adprep32 /domainprep - what is the gpprep switch
for?

Hello paperhat,

/domainprep /gpprep provides updates that are necessary to enable Resultant
Set of Policy (RSOP) Planning Mode functionality. SO if you already have
run it you will be fine. /domainprep is enough.

See here about adprep details and what happens:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...28(WS.10).aspx

Best regards
