Advice for a newbie pls

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem:
Error number: 0x80244001

Ive been trying all day to solve this problem, quite new to windows xp and
would appreciate any advice pls, Ive been trying to download two critical
updates but i keep getting the error message above

Hi

The 0x80244001 error is most likely a MSXML installation problem.


Register MSXML3.dll and see if it helps:

1. Click Start.

2. Choose Run.

3. In the Run box, type (or copy/paste from this post)

%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\MSXML3.dll

(note the space there in the middle)

4. Click OK.


If that didn't help, try this:

Unless you have installed Windows XP SP2, download and install
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and see if
it helps.

In the link below, set the correct language for your OS and press the
Go button (in the upper right corner). Then download and run the
msxml3xxx.msi file found at the bottom of Web page (msxml3usa.msi
for English OS).

Thanskyou so much for your prompt reply, I followed your instructions, I
hadn't registered MSXML3.dll so I went to the link that you left me,
downloaded it , now its allowing me to download Downloading Windows XP
Service Pack 2 , thankyou so much for your time , you have been a tremendous
help to me
