I am running Windows 7, and at first downloaded Windows Live Essential. I
hated it, and somehow found what apparently is an earlier version, or at
least a plain vanilla version of Windows Live that doesn't include all the
stuff that I don't want to use.

All I have is 'Mail, Calendar, Contacts, and Newsgroups'. It is quite
satisfactory.

However, my wife just updated her XP to a new computer with Windows 7. Now
I am trying to put the same email Windows Live that I have, on her machine.
All I can find is Windows Live Essentials.

I'd appreciate advice on where to get the plain vanilla version.

Thanks in advance.

Good, mac. And you? I have slowed down considerably in the newsgroups and
forums myself.

Links for the 2009 version (all links are to the Microsoft servers, no
third party hosting) are available in this article

Windows Live Downloads
http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2...ive-downloads/

- scroll down to the section for 2009 and download the full or web
installer versions

Fyi
- 2009 version is no longer receiving updates (the last ever version was
released in May 2010)
- your version (14.0.8089.726, QFE2) is not the current version
(14.0.8117.416, aka WLM 2009 QFE3)
- your version QFE2 is no longer available from Microsoft
- WLM09 QFE3 is still available for the foreseeable future due to XP being
available/in use. The 'foreseeable future' does not necessarily mean 'in
perpetuity' or until the end of XP's Life Cycle
- WLM 2009 QFE3 (while unrelated to your apparent needs) is the minimum
version required to user WL Messenger
- Vista and Win7 users of WLM 2011 earlier versions (Gold and QFE1) are now
being prompted to upgrade to the latest WLM 2011 version (QFE2)...thus
there is always a possibility that Vista and Win7 users of WLM 2009 may be
prompted to update to WLM 2011.

There are a lot of the old familiar faces missing these days in the
newsgroups. :-(

Windows Live Mail has been part of Windows Live Essentials since 2008, so I suspect that what you found was the XP version 2009,
build 14.0.8117.0416, which will also run on Vista and W7. You can install as much of the suite as you want, but you can elect
during the installation only to install Mail. ...winston has given the links to WLEssentials 2009 and 2011 installers - no 2010
version was released.

Joan,
You're always welcome to move over to the Annex Cafe which has a variety of
nntp groups (free) including
- User2User (technical group for all topics on Computers)
- Windows Live Mail (discussion group)
