I would expect glass in version 9 (not this not official, consider it a rumour).

Messenger uses Microsoft's DirectUI library (same as Windows Explorer and a few other
Microsoft products) which can't easily make use of the DWM/Glass APIs which is why we've been
left with the "faux" Vista look in the current beta version of Messenger.
