That's basically it. All of a sudden I get start up reminders that I
might be victim of counterfeiting and that aero isn't workin. I
validated my Windows and still the same, then I found a bunch of advice
on how to open control panel and I can't. At all. If I try right
clicking desktop, I can't open Personalize. So does anyone have any idea
what's happening??

THANK YOU!!!

Call Microsoft and let them reactivate it for you.

Take a look at the following tutorial:

I suggest you reinstall Vista then. Also, if your Windows Vista is not
validated, it should be prompting you to activate it before continuing, you
wouldn't have access to the desktop until you do so.

Try this suggestion by Carey Frisch [MVP]

1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe
4
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
3. Select your Country.
4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.
5. Once completed, restart your computer.

Andre, what would happen if he tries the "slmgr -rearm" function in the
command prompt? Would that help?

It just might work, but he would have to do it in Safe Mode I presume.

When I did that, with an installation of Vista, during it's 30 day trial
period, I didn't need Safe Mode, only Administrator privileges... I don't
now what would happen, because the command prolongs the trial period, I
don't know if it would actually start a new one if his Windows has already
used up all 30 days, or if it's "counterfeit" (as stated in the original
post)...
