I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, on a Toshiba Satellite P105
(Core2Duo, 2GB ram, 200GB hard drive), and the computer is, according to
Windows Update, current on all available updates.

After an automated install of available updates, and the subsequent reboot
windows sidebar fails to launch. I have tried launching it from both the
start menu, as well as it's location on the hard drive. It does not show
(even after clicking "Show Processes from All Users") in the task manager
(processes tab) before, or after launch attempt. I have searched the archive
of this forum, as well as extensively on the rest of Microsoft's labyrinth of
help and support sites, with no results.

The best I can figure out, is that this error, which occurred inanimately
after the update process may be involved as well. If it is, is there a way
(without starting sidebar) to disable the apparently offending gadget?

The description for Event ID 0 from source Windows Sidebar cannot be found.
Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local
computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the
component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to
be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

iTunesAccessory:
Abnormal exception in Active Periodic.

Exception Details:
Error Number: -2146827826
Description: The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable
Name: Error

Any information would be appreciated, and if I've missed a key bit of info
required to assist me, I will apologize in advance, and if you state the
missing information I will be more than happy to provide it. Thank You
Jason Barron

hi Jason, i have almost the same laptop as you: a satellite x200-191.
and guess what, my sidebar update failed:

Update for Windows Vista (KB943411)
Installation date: 9-1-2008 3:52
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 80004005
Update type: Important
Install this update to improve protection in Windows Sidebar. This update
enables Windows Sidebar to block certain gadgets from running. After you
install this item, you may have to restart your computer.
More information:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=104989

i didn't use the sidebar so i don't mind it that much... but i think it's
again a rather sloppy MSupdate...

i contacted customer support and they advised me to re-install vista!!!
YEAH right!!
i hope they ll soon hotfix this one!
Perhaps there are more toshiba users with a sidebar problem??

cheers

Same Problem this evening on my Vista Home Premium. (HP Slimline PC) Had 5
updates installed, all failed, but the other 4 failed to install due to the
sidebar security update issue failing first. It just keeps telling me that I
have 5 updates to install and when I restart, all have failed after it goes
through the configuring startup. Sidebar no longer loads at startup. Any
help somebody? Never seems to just be an easy thing with updates. Thanks in
advance!

Hi all well i finally managed to install Kb943411 thanks to these boards and
the Comodo forum. The problem for me was Comodo firewall blocking some thing
or other that the update service needs to use or connect to, only
uninstalling the firewall then running MS update fixed the problem, after all
went well i then reinstalled the firewall, also note when i only disabled the
firewall at the point of update Kb943411 still failed so in my case
uninstall of Comodo sorted my problem hope it helps.

Thanks. I have been on some forums and found the same thing about Comodo.
Let me ask you, once you got that update to work, did your sidebar come back
into use? Also, here is a link to see a temp fix from Comodo until the next
version od Comodo comes out. Good luck!
