After clean install of Vista, can't use Backup wizard to restore f

On Sunday March 2nd I decided to reinstall Vista Home Premium because I
couldn't get Windows Media Center to work. Afterwards, when I plugged in my
Seagate external hard drive and tried to use the backup wizard I saw this
message:

"The disk containing the backup is not accessible. Please make sure it is
turned on and connected to the computer."

I panicked at first because I thought this meant that I would not be able to
access the files on my Seagate, but I remembered that I could go the long way
by going through windows explorer and clicking on folder after folder after
folder, etc. I would rather not have to do this, especially since all I'm
looking for is just one folder! Can anyone offer any suggestions on what to
do, or will I just have to accept that I'll have to click through a thick
maze of folders to try and find what I'm looking for.

Copy the files to the hard drive. Open the help and support app and search
for backup. There are instructions on using old OS backups.

To clarify, there is no "old OS. It's the same OS. My computer came with
Vista HP, and I reinstalled it, and now I cannot use the backup wizard. Just
to clarify. (Unless you're saying that Vista considers itself an "old" OS
after reinstall?)

When using the Restore Wizard don't choose the 'simple' Restore Files
button.

It can be confusing, since it says, "Restore your files from a backup made
on this computer." but because you reinstalled the OS, technically it's no
longer the 'same' computer.

Choose 'Advanced restore", and then choose "Files from a backup made on a
different computer."

At the next step, point the program to the location of your backup and you
should now be able to restore the files quick and easy.

That worked!!!! Thank you SO VERY MUCH! Now I don't have to wade through
an endless maze of zipped folders.
