for the past month now, After an hour of having my PC on, browsing websites
and lets saying listening to music slows the pc down to a crawl... in fact
downloading just freezes up the pc to unbearable slowdown and i checked with
the resource monitor and it shows after an hour that the ability to write to
the harddrive crawls and struggles..so i reset the computer and then its back
to normal with writing to the harddrive and browsing and everything else runs
fine..but after another hour or so it starts to do the same again. Anyone
have any idea where to start looking for the problem>? Im think of switching
my IDE cable to see if thats the issue or wondering if it has anything to do
with overheating? anyone with any light to shed on this issue please go
ahead. oh yeah i have a Windows Vista Premium and also 2gb of DDR2 ram. have
done a restore and also have double checked as to any installations recent
but nothing really comes to mind to what could cause such a lockdown on data
being written to the HD...smart status on the Hd shows its ok.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

What do you mean by 'reset the computer ' ?
Have you tried unplugging from the internet and running for a couple of hours
to see how it behaves off-line ?
If you think it may be overheating, try running it with the side panels off.

"so i reset the computer..."

What does that mean? Restart? What?

Then it's not about overheating. Something is probably eating up your
RAM as time goes on.

Firefox did that to me a lot, so I uninstalled it and the problem
quit. Supposedly ver. 3.0 (in beta right now) has cured that problem.

Open up Task Manager and look into Processes to see how much memory is
being used by various processes. IE uses the most in my situation,
and it's unlikely that's the problem. Windows Explorer also uses a
lot.

Use those two for comparison purposes.
