after installing SP2 Major Preformance Decrease

Im not sure why this happened. I have tryed applying SP2 on my laptop a few
times. But every time I try it I get huge preformance decreases. I would have
to guess 40-50% decrease. Im using a 1.8Ghz IBM R40 Laptop with 512mb of ram.
I have uninstalled everything I can think of that might interfear(Symantec
antivirus and Nortons Utilitys)

Check with the laptop manufacture to see if there is anything you need
to update first such as drivers etc.
Verify all hardware and software is compatible with SP-2.
Also follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist:
