My system is windows 98 and I went to windows update and installed these
updates that were available for Windows 98 even though there wasn't suppose
to be support for Win 98.....since then I can't open system information or 5
non-microsoft programs....
I get the message with Am. Greeting program and system information, that
C/Windows/System/Msvcrt40.dll expects a newer version of windows. Update your
windows version. Another message says (program......exe) A device attached
to the system is not funtioning. I checked the properties for the dll in
C/Windows/System, the file version says 6.0.6000.16386
(vista_rtm.061101-2205) and the description says VC 4.x CRT DLL (Forwarded to
msvcrt.dll)
3 Turbo Tax and a Quickbooks program starts produce the same messages but
with C/Windows/System/Oleacc.dll...the properties on that are file version
4.2.5406.0 (vista_rtm.061101-2205) and description is Active Accessibility
Core Component.
Did Windows Update put a Vista update on my 98 system? I tried uninstalling
the updates and also a backtrack to a previous date.....nothing has changed.
Any clues or help out there?
