Gets to the just the logon screen and fails, then goes into looping; booting
again and again, until I turn the system off.

I have tried restoreing to an earlier Restore Point and that failed. Tried
Safe Mode, same thing, failure to boot up successfully.

Guess I should ID that XP Pro is at SP3. It seems that something was
corrupted during the updates. Maybe doing a recovery from the XP install disk
will correct things.

Which updates were downloaded & installed?

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

A format and clean install should correct everything but I wouldn't trust a
Repair Install to do so.

Since I keep Updates turned on, they would have to be the latest for SP3. I
tried the restore from the restore console. Failed...the XP installation disk
I have is for SP2. The restore will not over-write a newer version. Trying to
create a "slipstream" for SP3 and not having much success in doing so.
