After "searching for new updates," I get a blank

I see lots of people are reporting getting a blank page when they go to the
MS Update page. I'm having a different though perhaps related problem. It
started a couple weeks ago. I'd been using IE7 for a few months without any
previous problems. I click on the "Custom" button ("Select from optional and
high-priority updates for Windows and other programs..."), the update service
searched (for a LONG time -- ten mins., at least), and then suddenly nothing
is displayed in the main frame. The search appears to have ended, but nothing
is shown. I can click on things in the Options menu to the left, and they
work fine. But the results of the search aren't displayed. That frame is just
blank.

Anyone know how I might be able to deal with this?

Thanks.

What do you see if you right-click View Source in that frame?

There should be a lot of javascript in there. Perhaps you have some
ad scraping or security software in effect which is removing or corrupting it?

FiddlerTool would show you exactly what IE is receiving.
