after SP2 - Hard Drive light stays on - system hang

I installed SP2 about a week ago. After I did so I started having this
problem where when I start almost any program, 60% of the time the hard drive
light will go on continuously and the system will hang. I can get to the task
manager and see that the program is 'not responding' but it will not close it
and my only choice is to hit the reset button. Anybody have a clue?

Which XP? XP Pro? Do you have the Support Tools installed?

Try taskkill

(I have been informed that XP Home users don't have tasklist
so I don't suppose they have taskkill either.)


BTW this is off-topic for this newsgroup.
You can probably find better answers about performance problems
in a newsgroup which specializes in your OS.
