Since installing SP2, I can't get to many sites that I use to use all the
time. These are normal sites... american express, scottrade, etrust..
several others.. When I try to access, my browser shows .. connecting to
(at bottom of page) then after a long wait I get the message that it timed
out while trying to access the site. I can access other sites with no
problem. I have used several browsers and all do the same.. IE6.0,
Netscape7.2, mozzila and firefox... I have turned off the firewall, same
results. I have symatec antivirus (not norton works). I run spybot and
keep the spyware cleaned up. I have another computer on the same network and
it can get to these sites with no problem. I have changed ports on the
router with no new results. I run xppro.... I tried all the suggestions
that I could find in this newsgroup and managed to get to one site that I
previously couldn't. I think it was a fluke.

Another thing you can try is:
Go to start/run
Type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll
Press Enter or click OK

After you upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) in
Microsoft Windows XP SP2, some SSL-secured (128-Bit) Web pages and Web sites may not
work correctly. Frequently, this behavior is caused by security changes in Windows XP
SP2.

OK, I worked my way through these... still can't access certain sites. I
have to admit that I would never have thought to try any of these. I
thought that the below 305217 was going to fix it but it was for win 2000
and I have xp pro...

The only other thing I suggest, is you ask in the IE NG - perhaps someone there will
have other ideas, note your OS and what you've already tried.

Dear John,

The same thing has happened to me. I have always kept my computer running
excellent until I downloaded Windows XP Sp2. I have done everything that I
can think of. I have been online and on the phone with Microsoft technicians
and we have done many many things and it is still not working. I worked
online the other night with a Microsoft technician from India and some of the
information that he had me putting in the command files made my computer go
crazy. I did a Last Known Good Configuration on it and that seemed to help
some. I cannot connect to two web sites that I have always done business
with. If you find out how to fix this please email me and let me know. I am
desperate also. Thanks for listening.

Kind Regards,
Mark T.
