After SP2 no update or help abilty

Hi,
I have windows xp prof. I recently updated to SS2. Also made the mistake of
adding Norton System Works 2005 and NIS 2005. I cannot use the Help button
on start/programs. Hour glass then no response. If I run windows update IE6
Opens but blank screen. IE6 does work for the internet. But curiously one
site where I don't get the full content if I have scripts off seems to
indicate my script setting is off. Checked my firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro) and
script blocking is off.

I suspect it is a left over from NIS or NAV. Also the Security Center of
windows says NAV is still working but I riped out every service and file.

How do I get windows update to work again and the Help function? Also is it
just a coincidence but I suspect scripts cannot run as this one website
content is appearing when my firewall blocks scripts? I tried going to IE6
and setting the settings to DEFAULT.

I noticed in IE6 now that Javascript does not work either. In the Sept issue
of PCWORLD it says MS wants you to disable Javascript even though doing so
will make their windowsupdate not funtion correctly (according to PCWORLD).
Could this be part of my problem? I wish I never ran Service Pact 2. Anyone
have any ideas how to get windowsupdate to not just present a blank screen
and the HELP funciton in start/programs to function again?

I'm sure it's too late for Brian, but if you found this post,
you may have noticed:
- XP SP2 mostly works, but
- Windows Update gives a blank screen
- Help fails in many places
- Search leads to a blank screen
- IE / Help / About paints a screen, but no parameter values
- Brian was right, scripting is broken.
- OLD KB articles lead to win98 scripten.exe the "script engine"
- There seems to be little reference in the KB, but a support tech (after 2
days)

vital to finding reproducible error conditions and forming robust solutions
to various Windows Update issues. However, Mike, you meant never install
SP2 with an antivirus or firewall product "running," not installed -- right?
Please do not ask people to uninstall their firewall or antivirus programs
to obtain Windows Updates. Thank you.
