after update cant view folder contents

Hope someone can help.
After the latest automatic update for win2000, I have some strange problems
occurring. The main one is that I cannot see the contents of the folders off
the desktop. All I see now is a small square. Also unable to view control
panel contents. Norton antivirus unable to run, but I can launch other
programs from start menu. I can view this computers files from another
networked computer.
Any suggestions.

I had to reinstall IE6 and the problem was solved. Not sure why, but it
solved the problem.

Spoke to soon......

As soon as it installs the recent windows updates, same problem - unable to
view the folders, only a small square in top left part of the box.
Had to reinstall IE6 again to solve the problem and I will NOT allow
updates to run until something changes.
