I upgraded from XP to Ultimate. Everything was working so-so. All updates
were installing correctly. Then...this past week I kept getting 3 updates
that wouldn't install. No error code. Kept trying to install them and finally
they started installing.
Now my computer keeps showing me "Configuring Updates" and finally "Shutting
Down". This keeps happening over and over. I cannot get my computer into Safe
Mode to Restore before Updates. I cannot get ANYTHING done!. Computer just
keeps restarting. I have a Dell 3000 with 2mgs Ram, 120 G Hard Drive w plenty
of room for Vista. Before installing Vista I ran upgrade advisor and
everything was ok.
Now I cannot use my computer. Any suggestions out there? I am using my
hubbies WinXP computer. Help Please! Thank You In Advance,Linda

I had the same problem and I solved it by inserting the Vista DVD and
choosing to boot from it. Then I clicked on Repair and then restored
Windows to a point before these stupid updates. Windows booted up
normally after that. Hope I helped, feel free to contact me if you
have any more questions.

What I am not doing now is installing any of the updates. I cannot get some
of them to install and I am giving up! The updates don't install right,my
computer gets messed-up and I get mad. So I am choosing for right now to
leave things alone.
Thanks again.

I got the same problem a few days after upgrading from XP to Vista Home
Premium. Restarting in whatever safe mode available did not make a
difference. I inserted the Vista CD, but the computer apparently did not boot
from it. However, on restarting for the umphth time, it did seem to go back
to normal, for reasons beyond my comprehension, after all it had been
configuring and restarting for more than 10 hours (my daughter had started up
the computer while I was at the office, and it immediately entered inotm this
loop). Anyway, maybe unwittingly I did something right.
