After Updates, Error: "Could not load the Installer for Image"

Concurrently with a number of recent software Home Windows XP downloaded
updates many programs on my PC misbehave...

My Creative webcam is not recognised any longer. Reinstallation gives the
error in the Subject field and it aborts... Also I stare at a blank screen
with my iTunes videos... Also my Skype is affected...

Is this a coincidence or the culprit is someting else?

Please help...

To note further that one of the Downloads that I installed was .NET Framework
3.0 and I believe this is the source of the trouble... Is there anything to
be done about it?
