Well, I was hoping to see some improvements on the issues I have been having
but have NOT seen any.

With UAC active the internet is unexceptibally slow

Personal setting do not stick in Windows Explorer

For no reason when setting do stick they will revert back to defaults

So, upgrading to Vista SP1 has not fixed my issues. Was a waste of time

Agreed.

But you forgot the one about file manipulations taking just as long as ever.

Actually, from what I can tell, SP1 has in fact *introduced* new problems
rather than resolving the existing ones.

I hardly think hundred of bugs fixes and performance improvements etc,
represents a "waste of time"

What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed?
One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
but are not limited to Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee
VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free, Pro, & Security Suite).

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

It is when the basic things that Vista does, it does worse than it's
decrepit progenitor XP.

Sure the browsers opens faster, but after that, not so great. And don't
even get me started about how ya'll destroyed a such a simple thing as a
file manager.

When 7zip can decompress and copy a file from a multi-volume rar
archive, faster than Explorer can just copy that same file, then you
know ya'll have got some problems.

So what you, a paid employee of MS, think, as compared to what consumers
of Vista think, doesn't really mean all that much, Mike.

But then again, you didn't even have the class to address the problems
mentioned by the Vista consumer who started this thread. You ignored
those problems, and changed the subject.

Nice way to build up good will with the consumers that ultimately pay
you! What business class did you learn to ignore consumers' legitimate
concerns?

I have neither of the above software. I use System Suite Pro 8 from VCOM.
Been using it for a couple of years now. With UAC active Vista has been slow
on my PC from day one, with or without System Suite.

OK - so on 3 machines with UAC I have no problem with my Internet download
speed.
UAC does not interfere with your downloads unless you are trying to do
something that requires admin privileges to run. So the basic process of
accessing a file via FTP or HTTP has no UAC involvement.

My Windows Explore remembers my preferences for size of icon, preview pane
on of off etc between application starts - is your problem something else?
