I realise this issue has been raised a few times including most recently by
Grey but I raise it seperately in case my circumstances are different and in
order to not affect and confuse any other threads.
Everything worked well on my my WLM till I got the 'new added contacts shown
offline' problem about a week ago. Yesterday I read the very useful threads
here and followed Jonathan Kay's advice. I run his remove_wlmpolicies.reg
program to delete my policies key.
That solved the problem and I could then see when my new contacts were
online. Thank you Jonathan.
Later in the day I turned off my computer and since restarting it I have
been unable to log into Live Messenger. I get to beyond the spinning stage
and see my list of contacts but I never fully log in so as to be able to
communicate with them. After about 30 secs Messenger will give up the log in
process and give me a message saying 'your connection with the NET Messenger
has been lost. Reconnecting in..'
I have tried to log in many times over the past 24 hours but all to no avail.
I have exited Messenger, cleared the policies key again as suggested on the
'spinning signin problem' threads, rebooted but none of this has helped.
I should also state that a friend who has recently become a NET Messenger
user is able to login successfully on my computer and to communicate normally
with his contacts.
I use IE 6 and WLM 8.0.0812 and run on Windows XP.
Thank you.
