how to again use WU v5 instead of v6 BETA ? - manual

if you wanna try the new v6 WU Beat, but have problems with it and dont wanna
reinstall windows to get erid of it:

!!!this is only for advanced users !!!

if you are using windows XP or 2003 download this file and extract it
somewhere on your harddisk http://www.ssforces.host.sk/wuv5.rar for winXP
http://www.ssforces.host.sk/wuv5.2003.rar for Win2003 Server

extract rar somewhere on your local disk !!!

!restart windows and start in safe mode (by pressing F8 when booting)!

1. Start -> Run (or Win+R) -> regedit
2. erase
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate"
and
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\WindowsUpdate"
3. erase folders and files in "\Windows\SoftwareDistribution"
Note: NOT folder itself !!!
4. erase folders and files in "\Windows\System32\SoftwareDistribution"
Note: NOT folder itself !!!
5. copy files from extracter rar to "\Windows\System32"
6. restart PC to normal mode

In normal mode:
1. run Internet Explorer
2. enter "http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx"
3. enjoy WU v5

This works at 100% on Windows XP Pro.
Tested on Windows 2003 Enterprise Evaluation.

I dont recommand this at all. Instead you should click Change Settings under
options. And see the "To stop using Microsoft Update " section. Check it and
click apply. This is the best way.

Well, that should work if you are able to get to Microsoft Update page, but I
am not !
Everytime I try to get there my IE crashed with some error.
