Soon, no more 32-bit computers will ship...

-Out of the 11 HP laptops listed as "new arrivals" at Best Buy, 9 come
with 4GB of memory and 64-bit Vista. Ironically, the other two
new-arrival HP systems come with "Windows Vista Business downgraded to
XP Pro." -

-In other words, you get either XP or 64-bit Vista*:* 32-bit Vista is
not offered standard at all in this list of new arrivals.-

The date and time was 11/1/2008 2:02 PM, and on a whim, rasmasyean

Vanishing? Not for a long time. In six to ten years we might start
seeing it take hold. Once the remnants of XP start fading away.

If users aren't willing to give up perfectly good hardware and software
that won't run on a 32 bit Vista, I doubt shoving a 64 bit OS on
everyone will go over any better.

I would guess MS figures it takes a 64 bit CPU and 4 gig of RAM to get
Vista working properly. ;-)

What has M/S got to do with HP shipping Vista 64 bit. M/S makes their
commission whether 32 bit or 64 bit is installed.

Some people just hate M/S so much that they are blinded to the facts that
exist.

Well hopefully it will mean more 64bit apps rolling out <stares
meaningfully at Adobe and also at the music industry> as they're a bit
thin on the ground, especially at the cheaper end.

Windows 7 will be the big turning point for 64bit..

And about time too. It certainly took MS a long time to get there - I was
using Tru64 Unix in about 1995.

Considering the fact that MS does not write software drivers for 3rd
party apps I'd say it is really the retail software industry as a whole
that is at fault.

Ditto!!
All I see in Vista is huff, fluff & bluff, nothing really improved and
harder to use.
They used server code base, so what.
As the old lady used to say in the commercial...WHERE'S THE BEEF? LOL

Other than an expanded memory space what exactly does a 64 bit
OS buy me?

>The ability to use WAY more than 3.3 GB of RAM will be the

Why? Other than very large Oracle servers I can't think of a
program that uses more than a gig. Maybe some large image editing
setups...

I thin kpeople would see more improvement from a solid state
disc drive with reasonable write speed than from 64 bit Windows.

BTW, you don't need a 64 bit OS to address more than 3GB.
