Do a System Restore to a date prior to your "tinkering".

Was doing routine maintenance on my Dell Laptop Vista Prem., (Reg.mech.,
Norton, Windows, etc.) and the background for my sidebar turned white, the
background for the bottom strip (icons) turned white, and the windows start
menu button changed. I don't know what I did, or how to reverse it. THIS IS

Undo whatever you did with Reg. Mech. and don't use the registry fixer
ever again.

You finally got bitten by Registry Mechanic.

FOUND IT!!! PERHAPS THIS CAN HELP SOMEONE ELSE: I was poking around all my
user settings on the programs listed above. Was in Windows control panel,
clicked personalize, clicked appearance, and went into the advanced mode --
just to look around. While there, I would occasionally check a box or two,
see what it did, then uncheck, to where I started. What I did not realize is
that I had to click "Apply" in order for my computer to revert to the
original settings after I put them back in order! Once I did this, everything
went back where it was spozed to be! Thank you Jesus. Hope this helps youand
teaches me to keep my damn hands off things what I don't know about.

I notice you indicated (Reg.Mech. lives to see another day) you will
continue to use Registry Mechanic. I would advise you to not use registry
cleaners or "system optimizers".

If you need to clean your registry of any unwanted entries I suggest you do
it manually. If you insist on using cleaners or optimizers you should look
at each entry these programs want to delete to determine if it should be
deleted.

These programs will bite you in the ass. It's only a matter of time, at
which time you could find yourself restoring your registry, which does not
always work properly, or doing a complete reinstall of your OS. They're
really not necessary.

So if you are thanking Jesus, why are you posting here? Did Jesus fix your
stuff or YOU?

To be honest, considering some of the responses seen here, the power of
prayer seems to be a viable option.
