Aliens attack ???

Why are so many people posting more than TWICE for the SAME question ??????
Worst, they had the answers but continue to ask.
Something they ate or drank ?

Many are not acquainted with Usenet customs. They are under the mistaken impression
that the more times they post their issue, the quicker the answers will come.
They also have trouble seeing replies due to the awkward way the web-based
interface works.

It gets worse - some of them appear to have paid membership to join the
website forums and one at least has made a donation because "it is such a
great place". They obviously don't see all of the replys. A lot of them
think its a live chat forum and try to bump posts by adding empty posts to a
thread. I get the feeling that they are very young (school or college) so
why arn't they getting the basics in the IT room?

Something's been screwed up on the web-based access to these newsgroups.
Folks have reported that they get "failed to post" errors once, twice, even
three times. Yet another reason to access these newsgroups via your default
newsreader (e.g., Windows Mail; OE; Windows Live Mail).

I meant to ask. What did they intend to achieve with " empty posts " ? I
have seen that a lot.

When you get a second poster adding an empty post to the thread you mean?

For instance the ebay forums. The threads are arranged in a certain order
so that the latest post will bring the thread (topic) its in to the top of
the 1st page. So busy posts will stay at the top and ones with no new posts
will drop down to the bottom of the page to the next page back and so on. If
you are watching a particular topic and want to bring it up to the top so
more people read it you "bump" which is usually a post with the word "bump"
only or just a smiley and these days, just an empty post.

So they think that by bumping it will push the topic to the top of the page.
Which on some forums and live chat it does. Here of course the threads
hold the time/date order that the original question was asked.

I don't think some of them know about "watching" to keep track of a thread
or they may not have that facility if accessing through a website forum.
